Oxiteno Presents its Portfolio of APE-free Surfactants at the ACS

04.01.22

The company will give two talks on how to solve the challenges of water-based architectural coatings formulators.

Oxiteno, will participate in the 2022 American Coatings Show and Conference, which takes place between April 5th and 7th.

Oxiteno was selected to give talks concerning new product launches for water-based architectural paints.  Juliane Pereira, Ph.D., Specialist for Coatings at the company, will be discussing the company's latest innovations in reactive surfactants and how they can help increasing the water resistance of latex. Bruno Dário, M.Sc., Senior TS&D for Coatings, will address the effects of APE-free surfactants on the emulsion polymerization of vinyl-acrylic latex.

For Silmar Barrios, Oxiteno’s global business head for Coatings, the event is a great opportunity for the company to showcase its large portfolio of APE-free surfactants and innovative solutions that optimize coatings formulations. He adds that one of the company’s pillars is a commitment to creating products that follow sustainability trends, understanding that this agenda is core nowadays.  "It is part of our commitment to develop, in partnership with our clients, new solutions with fewer environmental impacts, to achieve efficiency in the use of resources focused on reducing waste, and to contribute to the technological evolution of increasingly durable and resistant coatings." says Barrios.

Oxiteno's complete coatings portfolio

APE-free wetting agents for water-based coatings
OXITIVE 7000 series comprises a broad range of surfactants designed to decrease interfacial tension between coatings components allowing for high pigment and filler load of mill-base during grinding, high compatibility of colorants in tinting systems, and improved substrate wetting.

Dispersing agents for waterborne pigment concentrates
Oxiteno will launch a new solution for the pigment dispersion market, focusing on the challenge of difficult dispersion, such as carbon black. The OXITIVE 8000 series comprises a broad range of dispersing agents designed to maximize pigment load and tinting strength of waterborne pigment concentrates, ensuring compatibility with different paint systems, performance, and stability under different temperatures.

Solution for waterborne alkyds
OXIMULSION 9000 series emulsifiers were created to promote the emulsification of long-in-oil alkyd resins. These surfactants allow the formulation of water-based alkyd enamels with the same properties in the final application as solvent-based formulations. Oxiteno's emulsifiers allow formulators to prepare stable emulsions for high-performance enamels with reduced toxicity since they are APE-free surfactants with low VOC content.

APE-free surfactants for emulsion polymerization
OXIMULSION and OXITIVE series allow to control particle size during the process as well as traditional APE-based surfactants. Oxiteno’s surfactants were designed to be easily incorporated in the emulsion polymerization process and to aid the production of latexes with controlled particle size and excellent performance – such as high-water resistance and low coagulum formation.

Coalescing agent to improve film formation
ULTRAFILM 5000 is a patented technology designed to be a more compatible coalescing agent for acrylic, vinyl-acrylic and styrene-acrylic latexes delivering performance benefits. Its technology makes it possible to develop high-performance formulations with a low odor and low VOC. The coalescent results came from more than five years of extensive research by Oxiteno, which reinforces the company's concern with developing solutions with a high level of technology and efficiency, while having less of an impact on people and the environment.

Building Blocks to fine-tune coatings performance
ULTRATINT series: Oxiteno’s alkoxylated polyols were designed to be used as an intermediate for polymerization and as a low molecular weight binder to improve mechanical properties and endurance of formulated coatings.
