ACS: Exhibitor Expectations Part 2

After the cancellation of ACS in 2020, exhibitors are eager to participate in this year’s event.

After the 2020 ACS was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 American Coatings Show and Conference will be held April 5-7 at the Indianapolis Convention Center. Exhibitors

Held in partnership with the American Coatings Association (ACA) and Vincentz Network – the organizer of the European Coatings Show and Conference – the American Coatings Show and Conference (ACS/ACC) will be held over three days.

Exhibitors at this year’s show reported that they were eager to get back to “normal” in-person meetings and conferences.

Arkema:
 Arkema will be showcasing a full rage of waterborne, high solids, UV/EB and powder coating magerials at the 2022 American Coatings Show. Highlights include: 
  • Reducing dependence on TiO2 in decorative paints with ENCOR 317 vinyl acrylic resin and CELOCOR AF opaque polymers
  • Increasing the use of biobased content with SYNAQUA 4856 alkyd, SYNAQUA 4804 alkyd, COAPUR HEUR thickeners, CRAYVALLAC additives and SARTOMER Sarbio UV Specialty resins
  • Meeting SSPC Paint 47 Standards with Kynar Aquatec PVDF resins
  • Improving durability and reducing VOCs in Protective and Marine coatings with a full toolbox of SYNOCURE® acrylic polyols and NISO products, SYNOLAC® alkyds and polyesters, CRAYAMID® reactive polyamides, SYNAQUA and ENCOR waterborne solutions, and UNITHANE modified alkyds
  • Improving asphalt bleed resistance and maintaining reflectivity in cool roof coatings with ENCOR Flex 1361 all acrylic, Kynar Aquatec PVDF resins and COADIS 790 dispersants
  • Hot tire pickup resistance on concrete surfaces with NEOCAR Acrylic 850 resins
  • Enabling ultra-low temperature cure powder coatings with REAFREE 6846 carboxylated polyester resins

Whether the 2022 show will see participation levels similar to those we saw pre-Covid is still to be seen, but Arkema will be going into this week with anticipation and optimism. Evonik:
Regulatory requirements, voluntary corporate commitments, and intensified consumer attention have all resulted in facilitating new technologies that are more environmentally friendly and sustainable.

“With our brand-new VESTA eCO grades Evonik swapped virgin fossil raw materials for renewable ones to make solvent, composite and coating systems much more sustainable,” said John Duggan, VP, Crosslinkers, Americas. “As the pioneer in isophorone chemistry, Evonik is currently the only company in the world offering a renewable I-Chain platform that includes isophorone, -diamine and -diisocyanate products. The new VESTA eCO series comes with a reduced CO2 footprint and can be used as a drop-in solution without compromising well known performance. All products are ISCC Plus certified.”

“Evonik epoxy curing agent technologies offer coatings formulators a range of products to meet both current environmental regulations, as well as positioning them for future trends,” he continued. “Be it waterborne solutions for lower emissions which reduce environmental impact and improve worker safety, accelerators for low temperature which require less energy, or high corrosion resistance solutions which mean less repair work is needed and material usage is reduced, our broad portfolio of products is sure to satisfy.

Hockmeyer Equipment Corp:
Hockmeyer will be highlighting its Micro Mills and  NextGen recirculation mills.

“We will be demonstrating lab units and production units of both technologies,” said Sara Fuller, VP sales and marketing.”

“We expect to see new technologies, new products, even new companies and many new prospective clients, since we’ve been on hiatus for four years,” he said. “People are  eager to reunite, learn & socialize.  We all have a basic human need for personal interaction.  The semi-isolation forced on us the past several years has reinforced the value of in-person discussions; our meetings at this show will be more deliberate, in depth and focused. We are planning for quality meetings and not just a busy booth.  Social distancing guidelines and other health related precautions have changed meetings to smaller group settings using digital presentation tools. Virtual brochures, VR demonstrations, hologram projectors,  3d displays, We are looking forward to establishing our shows’ “new normal” and to the opportunity to demonstrate our trusted and our newest technologies at this highly anticipated event.”

Keim Additec Surface USA, LLC:
“We will be promoting our the dry waxes, we are proselytizing some PTFE replacements. PTFE is becoming a hot topic,” said Keith Condon, national sales director. “We are seeing some customers which have reached out to us on +12 current products purchased, asking for a PTFE free replacement or counter offering. Tyler John our USA Technical Sales Manager will be a presenter during the ACS. He will touch on the six basic properties when defining waxes. Five out of six must be met for a chemical to be considered a “wax”. Also we will also focus on our SILCO & SPACTIVE lines of dispersants, defoamers, wetting agents. ULTRALUBE water base wax emulsions, our line of rheology modifiers, hydrophobicity additives and specialities like our formaldehyde scavenger, stain blocker and Ph buffer additives.”  

“Our expectations are high,” Condon noted. “We have invested well in this show and we have looked for ways to be creative and attract some booth traffic. This year we will have 2 different VR reality headsets – 1 unit you will actually sit in a car to further your VR experience with VR movement and the other unit is a state of the art new headset. Some of the VR experiences you can try are – Sky Diving - Race Car Driving – a Roller Coaster ride – Travel the World. Also we have hired and brough from the Philadelphia area, our own personal server.  Our server will supply drinks for our #2046 booth. We keim-additec Surface USA LLC were exhibitors during last years 2021 WCS and ECS shows. Keim-additec has always supported the coatings industries. We are hoping for a good ACS show.

Lubrizol Corp.:
Lubrizol is highlighting its resins & binders, dispersant and wax additives for the paint and coatings at the American Coatings Show.

Among the product offerings are Aptalon, new waterborne resin technology that outperforms solventborne predecessors, according to the company. Lubrizol will highlight Solsperse dispersants the feature new, premium performance waterborne, solventborne and UV dispersant technology with outstanding multifunctional capability. Among its wax additves are Lanco and PowderAdd advanced surface modifying technologies that deliver exciting opportunities to formulate differentiated coatings.

Micro Powders Inc. (MPI):
“Our two themes for the 2022 ACS are “Formulate for Performance” and “Formulate for the Earth,” said Rich Czarnecki, VP, MPI. “We will expand our portfolio of natural additives with a new NatureTex texturizing series and our high performance AquaBead R331E rice bran wax emulsion.  We will also be highlighting our latest composite and nanocomposite products that improve surface durability and corrosion resistance, including GraphShield 777, the industry’s first soluble graphene composite powder for liquid coatings.” 
 
“Based on the positive results we saw with smaller regional 2021 fall shows, we expect that ACS will be robustly attended,” said Czarnecki. “We are excited to reconnect with our existing customers, as well as to learn about new opportunities and applications where our technologies can improve coating performance.”

MÜNZING:

MÜNZING’S product focus this year is in direct response to what its customers are demanding.  “Specifically, a focus on Eco-label specialty waxes, products manufactured with renewable raw materials and a focus on domestically sourced raw materials that deliver supply chain reliability and sustainability,” said John Kwasneski, director of Sales, Paint & Coatings Additives, Americas Region. “It is a great list of METOLAT and EDAPLAN Dispersants, TAFIGEL Rheology Modifiers, AGITAN Defoamers and bio-labeled CERETAN and LUBA-print Waxes.  We look forward to addressing specific requirements and questions with anyone who wants to stop by Booth #1447.”

“We are seeing a great deal of excitement and eagerness from customers who look forward to valuable face to face discussions with our formulation, application and product development experts,” he said. “We expect a safe and exciting show filled with industry experts motivated to learn, network and expand their knowledge. Four years is a long time between shows so we are bringing a big team to help make up for lost time.”

Shepherd Color:
“Shepherd Color will be presenting at ACS our new easily dispersed Dynamix Yellow 30C133 that makes a great addition to our NTP Yellow and RTZ Orange products,” said Mark Ryan, global marketing manager. “Yellow 30C133 expands our line of Dynamix easily dispersed pigment technology and complements our new Blue 20G599 pigment which features maximum chromaticity. We will also be presenting our Arctic IR reflective pigment line in addition to our wide range of high-performance inorganic pigments for high-heat and harsh environments.”

“We are looking forward to seeing some customers that we haven't seen in a few years and there definitely is a lot of pent up demand for new technology as things get closer to normal,” he added.

Siltech Corp.:
Siltech develops and manufactures a complete portfolio of organo-functional silicone specialties in two Toronto area manufacturing facilities.  Siltech specialty silicones lower surface tension to provide wetting and leveling and bloom to the surface to provide slip, mar and stain resistance, release and other properties.  Silmer reactive silicones are functional polymers  which become part of the network, changing the properties. Siltech will be focusing on the Silsurf Bio line of silicone coatings additives made from sustainable feedstocks.

“Our expectations are that people will be excited to finally get out and talk face to face at the first major show to open in the industry,” said Robert Ruckle, global marketing and sales director.

Troy Corp.:
“Troy is a long time ACS supporter and exhibitor; we’ve found value in the show over the years and are pleased to exhibit again in 2022 at Booth #1538,” said Dr. Frank Cangelosi VP, Marketing. “Troy is now part of Arxada (formerly Lonza Specialty Ingredients), together forming a new leader in microbial control solutions and performance additives. We are excited to introduce to customers our combined product portfolios, which together form one of the broadest in the industry. We will also feature our complete portfolio of performance additives and driers. As such, customers will have one source for complete, 360° Control of their coatings, from antimicrobial performance to surface property and application control. This joining of forces will benefit customers and significantly enhance our value proposition, which we will demonstrate at ACS. Lastly, we will discuss our premier services, which also are enhanced by the combination of Troy and Arxada. Troy will be presenting its revolutionary new TIME controlled release dry-film preservative line. “TIME stands for Troy Innovative Micro-Encapsulation,” said Cangelosi. “These products, including Polyphase 763CR and Polyphase PW20CR, feature Troy’s innovative encapsulation technology, and offer excellent long-term protection, significantly reduced leaching, improved environmental profiles, and enhanced color stability.  These are just the first in an expanding line of new TIME products.”

Troy will also be focusing on Polyphase 8089, the first in its new line of high-concentration dry-film preservatives. This line of products incorporates substantially higher active concentrations compared with their conventional Polyphase counterparts, offering customers the ability to reduce use levels, achieve lower cost-in-use, cut back on inventory, and reduce their overall carbon footprint.

“Another product line introduction will be the Nuosept MIT-based wet-state preservatives,” added Cangelosi. “Nuosept MIT-10 is an MIT product, while Nuosept BM11, BM21, and BM22 are BIT + MIT combinations in varying ratios. These preservatives offer strong performance, with efficacy against common spoilage causing organisms, as well as excellent cost-in-use. We will also be introducing two new Arxada products, Effexel Boost antidefacement additive, which improves the surface properties of coating systems, and the Effexel Open Time Additive series, which delivers superior open time performance without sacrificing other key coating properties.”
