The company also rolled out a series of activities to underscore its strong commitment to the Chinese coating market

Eastman introduced its latest solutions including Eastman Tetrashield protective resin systems, Eastman Optifilm enhancers 400 (OE400), Eastman Advantex and Eastman Vantex-T neutralizing amine additives, and more to meet different needs of customers in automotive and architectural industries.

Eastman Tetrashield protective resin systems are designed to enhance coating performance, reduce environmental impact, and optimize the coating process for automotive OEMs and suppliers through higher-solids, solvent-based systems. The novel systems increase the glass transition temperature (Tg) while maintaining excellent solvent solubility. Coatings based on Eastman Tetrashield protective resin systems show enhanced weatherability and mar resistance compared to coatings without the systems.

With high solids, improved productivity, and complete layer reduction, formulations featuring Eastman Tetrashield protective resin systems can also achieve sustainability improvements over multilayer paint systems, up to a 10-15% reduction in volatile organic compounds (VOC), depending on formulation.

Eastman Optifilm enhancer 400 (OE400) is a low odor coalescent that is compatible with a variety of latex types, and it does not contribute to the VOC content of paints. OE400 is appropriate for all types of architectural coatings. It can be used as the sole coalescent in products such as low-odor, very low-VOC interior flat paints and is easy to use in the manufacturing environment.

With the acquisition of Taminco and its line of neutralizing amine products, Eastman expanded its portfolio of additives for the coatings industry. Eastman Advantex neutralizing amine additive is a multifunctional derivative that improves the low odor profile of architectural coatings while also enhancing superb pigment dispersion, emulsion stability, and syneresis control. Eastman Vantex - T neutralizing amine additive is a very low-vapor-pressure, multifunctional tertiary amine additive that enables formulators to create high quality, environmentally friendly, lower-odor, lower-VOC paints and coatings.

“As a leading provider to the coatings industry, Eastman is committed to innovation that can bring tangible benefits to our valued customers,” said Edmund Lu, Eastman Asia Pacific Regional Business Director of Coatings and Inks. “Thanks to our strong R&D capability and supply reliability, Eastman is well positioned to offer our customers effective and sustainable solutions that address the increasing regulatory challenges and demands from our customers.”

Eastman rolled out a series of activities to underscore its strong commitment to the Chinese coating market on November 29, one day before the tradeshow.

One of the most prevalent drivers in coating formulations today is the need to meet VOC limits established by regulations. Eastman held an auto refinish coatings seminar and invited regulators and industry key opinion leaders (KOL) to share the market trends and up-to-date regulatory standards with formulators and OEMs. To help address the VOC issue, Eastman also has a comprehensive portfolio of specialty ketones with high solvency and low density. Low density yields coatings that contain fewer grams of solvent per liter and, therefore, lower VOC.

In addition to the auto refinish coatings seminar, Eastman hosted a session to share its latest solutions in architectural coatings to small and medium-sized Chinese formulators during the 2016 China Coating Industry Summit organized by HuiCong Group, one of the leading B2B online platforms in China.

“Eastman is making every effort to help drive development of the Chinese coating market. We are always working closely with stakeholders throughout the value chain to meet emerging regulations and establish a healthy industry,” Edmund added.
