Valspar has reported its first-quarter profit nearly doubled from a year ago, driven by favorable weather and strong retail sales of architectural finishes and coatings, according to the company. For the quarter ended Jan. 27, Valspar reported net income of $22.5 million versus a prior-year profit of $11.7 million. Revenue rose to $629.8 million from $557.1 million during the same period.
