Sermatech International has entered into a multiyear agreement to provide Goodrich Corporation’s Landing Gear Facility in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, with a turnkey “Shop in Shop” coating facility for the application of high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal spray coatings to landing gear components.
Sermatech will begin its support of Goodrich in Oakville by applying, grinding, and superfinishing HVOF coatings on A380 landing gear components in this new facility. The “shop-in-shop” concept enables a lean manufacturing environment that optimizes workflow, reduces inventories and minimizes turn-times for Goodrich by eliminating the need for outsourcing these processes, according to the company.
“Sermatech is thrilled to be able to work closely with a world-class aerospace company such as Goodrich,” said Mike Propen, CEO, Sermatech International. “The implementation of a 'shop in shop' in Goodrich’s Oakville site allows each of our respective companies to leverage our core strengths—Goodrich’s landing gear design and manufacturing capabilities coupled with Sermatech’s materials and surface technology expertise—to provide our aerospace customers exemplary service at the lowest cost.”
The new coating facility is intended to be fully operational by January 1, 2007.
