Robert Taylor, president of AkzoNobel’s North American decorative paints business, has been nominated to the American Coatings Association’s (ACA) board of directors and executive committee. Taylor will serve a three-year term, until April 2015.
Taylor’s career in coatings spans nearly four decades, the first half of which was with AkzoNobel in various research, product development, marketing and operations roles with a focus on Asia. He rejoined AkzoNobel in 2006 as president of the global industrial finishes business unit located in China, and most recently served as president of the global marine and protective coatings business unit based in London.
Taylor has served in leadership positions at Global Coatings Consultants and The Sherwin-Williams Company, and as president and COO of Lilly Industries, which was later acquired by The Valspar Corporation. He was also an executive partner at the Butler University College of Business Administration.
Taylor has served on the board of directors for Hooker Furniture Corporation and FinishMaster.
In 2003, Taylor received ACA’s Industry Statesman Award for lifetime achievement and service to the industry. In 2009 he was named a lifetime Alumni Fellow by the University of Louisville College of Business for his outstanding service to the university and the international community, as well as an Honorary Executive in Residence. Taylor graduated from Harvard Business School’s International Advanced Management Program and holds an AAS in Chemistry and a BSC in Management from the University of Louisville.
