Sherwin-Williams, through its Product Finishes Division, has introduced Polane D 8700, a liquid direct-to-metal polyurethane coating that eliminates the need for primer, saving processing time and other job costs.
Polane D 8700 achieves good corrosion and chemical resistance without using a primer on blasted or pretreated metal used in machinery, transformers, enclosures, agricultural attachments, and construction equipment.
“With Polane D 8700, customers will get the high durability of a urethane coating system in a single step,” said David Calabra, Global Product Director, Sherwin-Williams Product Finishes. “We mix it and ship it from our facilities, reducing customer cycle time and inventory carrying costs.”
Custom colors and small orders can be blended at one of 74 local Sherwin-Williams facilities with quick lead times, and larger orders can be manufactured in one of the major manufacturing plants to ensure quality and performance. This launch is one of several Polane family enhancements planned for this year. “The Polane line of polyurethanes goes back to the 1930s,” said Calabra. “A product doesn’t last that long without evolving to meet changing needs of industrial OEMs and finishers. Polane D 8700 is just the start of the continued progress of this product line.”
