California Hardcoating Company has announced the commercial release of a clear, super-hard coating
called Perma-New, a liquid blend of silica and resin that allows manufacturers to hardcoat their own
products. Perma-New coatings are room temperature stable 10 times longer than competitive coatings,
and do not need to be refrigerated, except during long-term storage, according to the company.
Unlike varnishes or lacquers, Perma-New treated surfaces resist scratching even when rubbed with
coarse steel wool, and the applicator-friendly coating can be used in relative humidity up to 75%,
according to the company. Perma-New can also be applied at an application cost of less than 10 cents
per square foot, the company said.
