Ferro GmbH has been granted a patent for self-cleaning “lotus effect” coatings. These coatings are comprised of at least a partially hydrophobic structured surface and are obtained by applying a basecoat composition and then a topcoat composition containing a liquid medium, dissolved hydrophobizing agent and structure-forming particles of a specified size and composition.
