PPG Industries has obtained a patent for a coating comprised of an infrared reflective layer; a primer layer over the infrared reflective layer; a dielectric layer over the primer layer; and an absorbing layer. The absorbing layer can be either under the infrared reflective layer or over the dielectric layer; wherein the absorbing layer is comprised of an alloy and/or mixture of  a metal having an index of refraction at 500 nm less than or equal to 1.0 and a material having a ΔG°f of greater than or equal to −100 at 1,000°K; and wherein the metal is silver and the material is tin.
