American Thermal Holding Company has obtained a patent for a fire-retardant composition comprised of a latex binder; at least approximately 30% by weight of alumina trihydrate having at least a bimodal distribution of particle sizes comprised of a first powder of alumina trihydrate having a first median particle diameter between approximately 0.1 and about 20 microns, and a second powder of alumina trihydrate having a second median particle diameter between approximately 5 and 100 microns; wherein the second median particle diameter is larger than the first median particle diameter; and a surfactant.
