WEG Coating Protects HVAC Equipment in Florida

WEG demonstrated the effectiveness of its HVAC-R coating portfolio in Vero Beach, Florida (USA). 

To meet the requirements for durability, corrosion protection, and preservation of equipment thermal efficiency, HereShield WB 506 technology was applied. HereShield was applied to equipment installed on the rooftop of a beachfront building that was exposed to severe conditions, including salt spray, constant winds, and intense solar radiation. 

The project highlights WEG’s ability to protect assets operating in one of the most aggressive environments for metal structures.

Applied in June 2021, HereShield protected components for over 22 months of continuous exposure to extreme environmental conditions, demonstrating its ability to minimize corrosion processes and reduce maintenance interventions throughout the evaluation period. 

In addition to its durability, the coating showed less than a 1% impact on equipment heat transfer, preserving operational efficiency.

HereShield is a single-component, water-based acrylic coating that features air-dry curing and direct-to-metal application. The solution was specifically developed for marine environments, offering outstanding resistance to corrosion and ultraviolet radiation, while maintaining low volatile organic compound (VOC) content, combining technical performance with sustainability.

Another advantage of the system is its simplified application process, eliminating the need for complex surface pretreatments or primers. The coating also provides resistance to splashes of various acids and inorganic salts, key characteristics for ensuring continuous protection of HVAC equipment installed in coastal regions.

The project reinforces WEG’s expertise in HVAC-R solutions, offering a complete portfolio of coatings developed to protect heat exchangers and industrial equipment without compromising thermal performance.
