Furniture manufacturers attending the Fall 2019 International Home Furnishings Market in High Point this month will get insight into the latest color innovations and trends shaping the furniture market from experts in AkzoNobel’s Global Color and Design team for wood coatings. This team works with furniture designers and architects to understand and interpret the impact of fashion and lifestyle on colors and effects used in paints and coatings. During and following the Market event, which takes place Oct. 19-23, 2019, AkzoNobel experts will be inviting customers to their studio to share valuable insights into the color and design influences driving the wood industries. In addition, the AkzoNobel team will be showcasing the company’s 2020 Color of the Year – Tranquil Dawn, which is a delicate, fluid shade somewhere between green, blue and gray – and will be discussing the four-color trends expected to shape the wood coatings market over the next 12 months: Upcycle, Hybrid, Classical and Evolve. These color trends were also the center of discussion during a special media presentation, “Color Futures and Trends” on Oct. 17, 2019, at the studio. “Getting our customers excited about color and the latest coatings trends is at the heart of what we do as a company,” said Rob Haley, Color Trends manager for wood coatings at AkzoNobel. “We draw from centuries of experience and expertise and combine that with our latest in-depth market research to develop industry-leading color trends that serve as inspiration for the year ahead.” AkzoNobel’s wood design specialists translate what is happening in architectural color, soft-furnishings and fashion to create unique wood coatings that not only focus on color, but also on touch and feel, by introducing techniques such as wire brushing and heavy distressing. The highly-trained technical specialists then work closely with the wood design team to ensure that the finishes are robust and can be industrialized across the globe. “Our job is to inspire our customers with translations of the latest color trends into unique wood finishes and to ensure that they are capable of running these designs in their factories across the world,” said Bob Averett, Color Design manager for wood coatings at AkzoNobel. “Showcasing our expertise, our approach and our technologies at High Point Market is a key part of that process.”
