The American Chemistry Council (ACC) has recognized BASF’s Geismar Acetylene Unit with the Responsible Care 2026 Energy Efficiency Award, honoring the site’s achievements in reducing energy consumption through the implementation of an advanced process control (APC) system.

The ACC award recognizes innovative strategies that improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and support sustainable operations within the chemical industry.

“The Responsible Care® Energy Efficiency Award reflects our continued commitment to operating safely, responsibly, and efficiently,” said Thomas Spiers, Technology Manager, BASF Intermediates. “By leveraging advanced digital tools, our teams are improving performance while reducing energy use and environmental impact.”

The Acetylene Unit is part of BASF’s Intermediates division, which produces acetylene for use in products like coatings, adhesives, sealants, elastomers, and plastics. Intermediates is part of BASF’s Geismar Verbund site, the company’s largest manufacturing facility in North America. This site demonstrates BASF’s Verbund approach, combining interconnected production, energy efficiency, and resource optimization to promote innovation and maintain competitiveness.
