Editor, Coatings World
At the 2017 ABRAFATI in Brazil, Evonik will be represented by several of our coatings businesses: Coating Additives, Silanes, Crosslinkers, and Coating Resins. Our new Coating Additives business line – consisting of TEGO additives, Silica products, and Specialty Additives of former Air Products – will make its formal debut in the Brazilian market. What products do you plan to highlight at the ABRAFATI? The Coating Additives business line is highlighting a variety of new products for the coatings and inks industry at this year’s ABRAFATI. • AIRASE® 4655 is an organic oil-based defoamer designed for use in a broad range of water-based systems. It is recommended for applications that need to comply with comprehensive food contact regulations, as it contains no mineral oils, HAPs, APEs, or acetylenic diols. • AIRASE® 5355 is a siloxane-based defoamer designed to quickly control and eliminate foam without causing defects in water-based coatings, inks, and OPVs. This product contains no added mineral oils, HAPs, or APEs and is recommended for applications requiring broad food contact compliances. • AIRASE® 5655 is a more compatible siloxane-based defoamer designed for use in water-based coatings, inks, and OPVs. This product contains no added mineral oils, HAPs, or APEs and is recommended for applications requiring broad food contact compliances. • SURFYNOL® 355 is designed to provide dynamic wetting without generating excess foam in water-based pigment dispersions, inks, OPVs, and coatings. With no added mineral oils, HAPs, APEs, or acetylenic diols, SURFYNOL® 355 complies with multiple food contact compliances. • TEGO® Wet 285 and TEGO® Wet 550 are new substrate wetting additives that display a low tendency to migrate. They were designed specifically for printing on food packaging, and they comply with the Swiss Ordinance (Annex 6, List A), which regulates the use of substances used for food packaging printing. • TEGO® AddBond LP 1600 and TEGO® AddBond LP 1611 are new adhesion resins that provide excellent flow properties and are suitable for food contact. Additionally, they reduce viscosity without increasing the VOC content of the coating. This unique combination of characteristics allows for their use as adhesion resins in high solids applications. • TEGO® Glide 490, 492, and 494 are multi-purpose slip and glide additives specially tailored to various applications and their requirements. TEGO® Glide 490 provides anti-blocking properties in the furniture lacquer market; TEGO® Glide 492 offers weathering resistance and Eco-Label compliances for the trim and DIY coating market; and TEGO® Glide 494 satisfies haptic requirements and offers chemical resistance in the leather coatings and printing market. • CARBOWET® GA-200 offers superior low-foam surfactancy in a wide range of aqueous formulations, without the adverse impacts on water sensitivity, foam, or rheology typically found with other surfactants. It is suitable for low- to zero-VOC, low-emission, and Eco-Label compliant coatings. • AERODISP® WR 8520 is a structured dispersion of hydrophobic AEROSIL® fumed silica. It improves the thixotropic, anti-settling, pigment stabilization, and mechanical properties in aqueous pigmented coatings and in water-based clear coats. • ACEMATT® 3300 is a fumed silica, after-treated with a special polymer. This matting agent is distinguished by the highest matting efficiency combined with high transparency. It is especially suitable for use in water-based coatings, waterborne UV coatings, and clear coatings, as well as for all types of top coats. • AEROSIL® R 202 is a fumed silica, surface-treated with PDMS. It offers the most hydrophobicity for systems that are sensitive to moisture. In addition, it can improve corrosion resistance by enhancing the performance of corrosion-inhibiting pigments. This attribute makes it great for use in marine and protective coatings. • AEROSIL® R 805 is a surface-modified hydrophobic fumed silica that offers a special surface chemistry in 2-component high solids coatings. Its main function is rheology control – improving the anti-sagging behavior. It works great for automotive top coats and clear coats.
