During the European Coatings SHOW 2015, Sun Chemical will present an original scientific paper at the Coatings Congress and two additional presentations about metallic pigments for automotive and architectural coatings. The original scientific paper titled “Instrumental Measurement of Transparency that Matches Human Perception,” will be presented by Sun Chemical’s Lisa Clapp on Tuesday, April 21st at 2:30pm in the Kiew Room during the Testing and Measuring II session of the European Coatings Congress. The presentation of the scientific paper will explain how ratings of transparency by human perception often do not correlate with the contrast ratio or other single point measures of transparency. Clapp will then show that to overcome these correlation issues, transparency can be divided into four optical properties: haze, scatter, bronze and gloss. She will show how measurements on a diffuse sphere spectrophotometer for these four properties can accurately compare to the human assessment of transparency for pigmented systems. Clapp currently serves as the vice president of Colors Technology at Sun Chemical, and has been active in pigment color development and evaluation at Sun Chemical for 19 years. Another presentation during the European Coatings SHOW will be given by Martin Baier, a technical account manager for coatings at Sun Chemical, on April 21st at 10:50am at Hall 5, Stand 5-353. Baier will introduce Benda-Lutz® SPLENDAL vacuum metalized aluminum pigments and show how they can be used for automotive interior and exterior coatings. Benda-Lutz SPLENDAL metallic pigments offer a unique level of brilliance and reflectivity in coatings, but have specific application requirements to reach their optimal level. This presentation will give an overview of vacuum metalized pigment commercial offerings and application methods for automotive interior, trim and wheels. Formulation guidelines for waterborne and solvent borne VMP based coatings will also be presented. On April 23rd at 1:30pm, Andreas Kreutzer, a sales manager for powder coatings, will talk about Benda-Lutz® MAXAL EC for durable architectural powder coatings. The presentation, located at Hall 1, Stand 1-131, will show how Benda-Lutz MAXAL EC provides metallic effects with outstanding optical properties and industry-leading chemical resistance for architectural powder coatings. The coarser grades of the series have set market standards since their introduction, and the latest developments in the line of very fine 10 µm and 15µm area also provide the known excellent properties, opening up totally new styling and design potentials to powder coating producers combined with unsurpassed resistance properties. Benda-Lutz metallic and special effect pigments will be on display at the European Coatings SHOW 2015 in Nuremberg, Germany on April 21-23 at Sun Chemical’s booth, located in Hall 4, Stand 4-452.
