Sophomores from high schools across Delaware County engaged with Axalta Coating Systems and other local businesses, government, community and media leaders at the eighth annual Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) May 9 – 11 at the Penn State Brandywine campus to help pave the way for these students to pursue future leadership opportunities. This program, sponsored by the Youth Council of the Delaware County Workforce Development Board and the Foundation of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, is for outstanding high school students who have an interest in issues that impact the future of the community and the county. The YLA experience incorporates hands-on activities as well as discussions with those who hold influential positions in the community. Lisa Miree-Luke, Head of Corporate Affairs-North America at Axalta Coating Systems, was one of the leaders invited to speak at the YLA’s Business Leadership Panel. Students listened to and interacted with panel participants as they discussed their roles, background and shared tips for future leaders. “I truly enjoyed interacting with these exceptional students,” said Miree-Luke. “We know investing in future leaders has a great impact on the business community. We want to contribute in any way we can to help them achieve their potential.” Other YLA sessions addressed topics such as government and politics, working with the media and non-profit leadership. Students developed their own personal leadership style and skills and worked on plans to implement a team leadership project. “We are thrilled to have Lisa Miree-Luke present to our young leaders,” said Trish McFarland, Delaware County Chamber of Commerce President. “Axalta Coating Systems is a wonderful partner in our community and we are so grateful for their time and commitment to these future leaders.”
