PPG announced that Songwei Lu, PPG senior research associate and group leader for display coatings, will present his paper “Transparent Functional Coatings on Glass by a Spray Process” during the 2017 Smart Coatings Symposium in Orlando, Florida, Feb. 22-24.
Lu’s presentation will highlight new developments that enhance the performance and spray application of transparent functional coatings, which encompass easy-clean/anti-smudge (EC/AS), anti-glare (AG), anti-reflective (AR) and anti-fingerprint (AFP) coatings. These coatings are used to satisfy consumer demand for better screen clarity on smartphones, tablets, laptops, car navigation systems, touchscreens and other electronic devices with user interfaces.
Lu will compare the performance of various transparent functional coatings by PPG using industry-standard test methods for factors impacting user satisfaction such as wear durability, optical properties, abrasion resistance and sparkling. He also will share electron-microscope and optical images showing how the microstructural composition of next-generation transparent functional coatings enables improved performance.
Lu’s presentation will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn Orlando Conference Center on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 1:30 p.m.
The Smart Coatings Symposium is the premier event for updates on emerging technologies and opportunities in coatings, functional polymers, processes and allied materials presented by world-renowned scientists and technologists. The annual three-day gathering brings together scientists and business leaders from across the globe.
