AkzoNobel’s Marine and Protective Coatings business has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Sinopec to support the Chinese energy and chemical company’s global expansion while jointly promoting the ongoing transition to green energy.
The partnership – which builds on a relationship that first started in the early 2000s – will leverage AkzoNobel’s global presence and centers on the supply of International high-performance coatings products to Sinopec and its affiliated institutions for overseas construction projects.
It includes providing anti-corrosive coatings for steel structures, protective coatings specifically designed for high temperature resistance, chemical-resistant coatings for storage tanks and high-performance fireproof coatings. They’ll be used for projects such as building refining facilities, natural gas processing plants and chemical production sites.
“Having already successfully collaborated with Sinopec on several landmark projects, we’re honored to strengthen our partnership, reflecting our shared vision to advance towards a more sustainable future,” said Simon Parker, director of AkzoNobel’s Marine and Protective Coatings business and member of the Executive Committee.
One of China’s largest integrated energy and chemical companies, Sinopec (China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation) is actively promoting the transformation and upgrading of its traditional businesses, enhancing its green energy supply capabilities and advancing energy conservation and emissions reduction.
The track record between the two parties already includes several major projects, such as Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company’s million ton ethylene project and the Petronas RAPID project in Malaysia.
“Our International products have been used on everything from some of the world’s most sustainable buildings to projects in impossibly remote areas,” said Parker. “This is another opportunity to use our extensive industry experience and exceptional product portfolio to help a customer thrive in the global arena.”
