Teknos announced its participation in the Nordic Circular Design Programme (NCDP). As the only paints and coatings company among 31 other industry leaders, Teknos is actively exploring opportunities to integrate circular economy principles into this sector. The NCDP, co-financed by Nordic Innovation, an organization under the Nordic Council of Ministers, is an eight-month initiative that supports companies in adopting circular business models and preparing for the upcoming Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). By bringing together forward-thinking organizations, the program aims to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable and circular economy. “Circularity is essential to building a sustainable future,” said Thomas Palm, chief portfolio Development Officer at Teknos. “By joining this program, we can collaborate with other industries, share knowledge, and develop partnerships that will accelerate the shift toward circular solutions in the paints and coatings sector.” As part of its NCDP participation, Teknos is also focusing on circular solutions at the product level, not only by incorporating biobased and secondary raw materials but also by designing products for easier recovery and reuse. Additionally, the company is working to improve packaging sustainability, reflecting its commitment to sustainable innovation and operational excellence. Teknos recognizes the complexities of adopting circular practices, from maintaining performance standards with secondary materials to balancing sustainability with cost. Through collaboration with other participants and the use of NCDP’s tools and guidance, Teknos is addressing these challenges head-on. At the NCDP’s live workshop in Copenhagen, the emphasis was placed on embedding circular principles at the design stage. Inspired by these discussions, Teknos is exploring opportunities to integrate circularity into its operations, particularly in alignment with the ESPR. With its EcoVadis Gold Medal 2024 achievement and a long-term target of carbon neutrality by 2050, Teknos is fully dedicated to supporting the Green & Digital Transition.
