Tony Rumfola received the 2014 WCS Samson-Adler Distinguished Service Award at the 32nd Biennial Western Coatings Societies Symposium and Show. The event was held October 25-28th at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tony Rumfola, 88, has been a member of LASCT for more than 50 years, following memeberships in the Houston and Dallas Societies. He started TCR Industries in 1975, as a one-man operation, concentrating on serving the paint, coatings and plastics industries, and later expanded into the fine chemical side of personal care, pharma, cosmetics, nutraceutical and food industries. TCR has grown since its inception and now employs 33. Mr. Rumfola is a two-time Past President of the Southern California Paint and Coatings Association, where he served from 1980-1981, and 1986-1987. During his first term, he was also the Chair of the Biennial Symposium, where he set the record for the Cal Poly Scholarship fund, with an approximately $32,000 contribution. TCR Industries has participated in every event that LASCT has had in the last 40+ years, as well as supporting the WCS. Mr. Rumfola was not able to attend the WCS to accept the Samson-Adler award. His son Sam, who is CEP of TCR accepted the award on his behalf. The WCS Samson-Adler Distinguished Service Award was introduced in 2009. Named for Mr. Maurice Samson (Los Angeles) and Mr. Barry Adler (San Francisco) in recognition of their pioneering efforts during the earliest days of the WCS, the award distinguishes an individual for lifetime service to their society, the WCS and the coatings industry in general. TCR Industries markets specialty chemicals to companies that use them to make adhesives, coatings, inks, food, sealants, plastics, and building products. TCR maintains six warehouses in Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, and Utah. Typical products distributed include epoxies, resins, latex, carbon black, calcium carbonate, waxes, pigments, vegetable oils, and dispersants and surfactants.
