Here is a listing of latest product launches from manufacturers of industrial coatings. AkzoNobel: At a time when efficiencies are so important in the oil and gas industry, AkzoNobel’s new Chartek 2218 epoxy passive fire protection helps clients to achieve unprecedented levels of savings through its simplified installation and unique rapid cure properties. Even at low temperatures, faster application and improved production rates can be achieved, which contribute to reduced overall costs compared to other epoxy passive fire protection alternatives. “This new innovation allows for an increase on steel throughput of up to 300 per cent per day compared to cementitious PFP and 50 per cent compared to any other epoxy PFP; that translates into huge savings for our customers,” said Gerard de Vries, business director Protective Coatings North America, AkzoNobel. Axalta Coating Systems: “R&D and, more broadly, technology and innovation are at the core of our success at Axalta,” said Michael Cash, SVP and president, Industrial Coatings at Axalta. “It’s our main priority to provide our customers with the most cutting-edge solutions and technology that will make a difference in their businesses. We focus on “innovating with purpose” – working with customers on specific new product requirements, and then understanding how these innovations can apply to broader markets and customers. Using this approach, in the past year, we have delivered over 100 new industrial products globally.” A few of Axalta’s recent products include its Alesta Lync dry-on-dry powder coatings technology, AquaEC 6100 tin-free, high-productivity electrocoat products, Nap-Gard high-temp internal pipe coatings designed to replace liquid coatings for the interior coating of pipelines and the Voltahyd product line, which is the first waterborne impregnating resin coating for the interior protection of electrical motors. Hempel: “Our Hempadur Avantguard range is a great example of how we are working to ensure that we meet the needs of our customers,” said Klaus Moeller, group vice president, Group Protective Marketing, Hempel A/S. “Avantguard has been proven to offer superior corrosion protection, and is fast drying to minimize the application time.” Hempel’s recently introduced product Hempadur Multi-Strength 35840 addresses different needs. Its high-volume solids, not only reduce environmental concerns but represent real savings in the amount of paint needed to complete offshore modules. Hempadur Quattro XO 17870 offers excellent abrasion resistance and anticorrosive properties, reducing the number of products needed when building offshore assets and its high-volume solids minimises environmental impact. PPG: “Responding to our customers’ focus on durability, we launched a next generation SPECTRACRON ADVANTEDGE HPP liquid primer that combines extended chip resistance with unparalleled edge corrosion protection,” said Shelly Bausch, PPG vice president, Global Industrial Coatings at PPG. “As the inventor of electrocoat, we take great pride in our innovation leadership with this technology. In the past year, we have successfully customized our POWERCRON ADVANTEDGE electrocoat for new applications as a replacement for traditional liquids. Our customers have found the environmental benefits of metal-free catalysis, application efficiency, water usage, and lower VOCs to be truly compelling.” PPG launched DURASTAR ULTRA-COOL coil coatings to promote energy savings in metal roofing, siding, panels and other building components. It is a silicone-modified polyester coating with infrared-reflective pigments that substantially reduces the energy needed to cool a building. Powder technology continues to grow in importance, and PPG is in the process of launching a new product in its ENVIROCRON line of coatings for use in extremely challenging applications. It offers exceptional corrosion performance, chip resistance, and impact resistance to customers in the automotive and heavy equipment segments, meeting today’s requirements as well as advancing future specifications. Sherwin Williams: • Powdura OneCure: A powder coating system based on patent pending technology that eliminates the need to bake the powder primer for optimal process efficiency. The primer is applied followed by the topcoat, then baked. • Polane D8700: A low VOC, direct-to-metal polyurethane that eliminates the need for any primer. Along with process efficiency comes excellent durability properties on a variety of metal substrates. For more information check out our Industrial Coatings article in the June issue or click here.
