Coatings World asked Behr color expert Erika Woelfel to predict and discuss winter color trends. Below are her responses:
Brown is the New Gray
Brown is the New Gray
"While sleek, soft grays continue to be among our top-selling paints, the Behr design forecasting team is starting to observe the 'browning' of this neutral hue and anticipate brown undertones will begin to make a comeback in 2018," Woelfel said. "For those looking to get ahead of the trend, try shades like Unplugged T18-11, a complex combination of olive and brown, or Kombucha T18-06, a soft, honey-touched tan. Browns are versatile, working nicely in nearly any room, but recently we’ve been seeing them used to add a touch of elegance in a dining room or evoke a comforting mood in a cozy sitting area."
Color on Fire
"It was hard to miss the vibrant oranges and powerful reds on the runways of NY Fashion Week this fall," Woelfel said. "More grown-up than Millennial Pink, the presence of these bold shades signal that you’ll soon be spotting rouge hues in industries outside of fashion, as well. DIYers can strategically bring this haute couture trend into their homes with pops of warm, energetic shades like Spirit Warrior T18-12 and Civara T18-03 on an accent wall or piece of furniture."

Holiday Detox
"For many, November and December represent the busiest time of the year. Between holiday parties, family get-togethers and the never-ending to-do list, taking time to breathe and find balance at home is essential to enjoy the season," Woelfel said. "Shades of blue and green promote relaxation and tranquility, so we recommend people use these colors broadly in bedrooms, living rooms or kitchens—any place they go to unwind and unplug. Use Wabi-Sabi T18-10, an easy-going, versatile green, paired with Soft Focus T18-09, a warm, enveloping white to create the perfect backdrop for a hygge-inspired night cozied up by the fire, reflecting on the past year and imagining what’s to come."
