Dunn-Edwards selected Spring Buttercup (DE5310) as its Color of the Month for April.
“Spring Buttercup, a soft and light buttery yellow, was inspired by the first floral shoots and buds of springtime,” said Sara McLean, the company’s color expert and stylist. “It evokes those first days of spring when nature is waking up from a long winter. At this time of year, customers are ready for a design refresh and yellow is such a happy, enveloping hue that is refreshing and revitalizing, a key color when looking at the range of springtime colors.
“This shade of yellow is representative of those early spring buds and shoots, that include a range of oranges, yellows and greens, from leaves to wildflowers to the actual spring buttercup flower,” McLean added.
According to McLean, the inspiration behind choosing hues to highlight for spring is a balance between trending colors and traditional, seasonal colors.
“Neutrals and whites are left out and the focus is on the main color spectrum of red through purple,” McLean said. “Ensuring that each color introduced hasn’t been shown before through the colors of the month program, this opens to the door to a great range of hues be creative with and display to the customers.”
The goal is to highlight a range of hues that customers may not normally gravitate to when deciding on a color palette for their project, the color expert and stylist noted.
“Thinking outside the box of neutrals and whites, we want people to explore a larger range of color options available to them,” she said. “It’s also a great way to introduce some of the trending colors and display creative ways to use the colors that the customers may not have thought of before.”
McLean recommends using Spring Buttercup on kitchen cabinets or walls; powder rooms; guest rooms; family rooms; dining rooms; and sunrooms.
The Color of the Month, as well as Sparkling Cider and Siamese Kitten, are available at all Dunn-Edwards stores.
