You’re waiting on line at the amusement park, getting ready for an ultra-fast rollercoaster ride. You might be a bit nervous, but seeing the ride perfectly maintained provides some reassurance. Of course, that goes away when the ride takes off!
The world of amusement parks is quite fascinating. There is a tremendous amount of care that goes into theming. Paints and coatings play an essential role, whether it is the color of the ride, the pre-ride queues or the areas around the park.
For Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, PPG is a trusted partner when it comes to coatings. That is a sizable trust, considering that Six Flags is the world’s largest regional theme park company and largest operator of waterparks in North America, with 27 locations throughout North America. The two companies recently signed a five-year preferred paint supplier agreement.
“We are excited to welcome PPG as Six Flags’ preferred paint partner and we look forward to enhancing our parks with their superior PPG paint,” Stephanie Borges, Six Flags vice president of strategic marketing and partnerships, said in announcing the collaboration.
“Six Flags has 27 locations across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, housing hundreds of world-class roller coasters and attractions,” said Buddy Allen, PPG corporate accounts manager, architectural coatings. “PPG will use paint products that will help create brand consistency and protect Six Flags’ most famous skyline attractions, coasters, offices and more. These include Georgia Scorcher and Monster Mansion at Six Flags Over Georgia, Poltergeist at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and the iconic Oil Derrick at Six Flags Over Texas.”
Allen said that PPG has long respected how deeply Six Flags Entertainment Corporation values every visitor experience.
“When the opportunity arose to become Six Flags’ preferred paint supplier, PPG knew that our commitment to improving the customer experience aligned seamlessly with Six Flags,” he added. “PPG is proud to be entrusted to provide our expertise and proven products that will support Six Flags’ vision across North America.”
Allen noted that the amusement park/water park environment is a challenging one for paint and coatings, and that there are a variety of needs to be met.
“Leveraging durable coatings that create brand consistency across all Six Flags locations is our core focus, and PPG paint products will vary based on the surface we are coating,” he observed. “For example, a ride that involves water will require specialty coatings that can help repel moisture while still providing vibrant color and long-term durability. A popular attraction like Six Flags Over Texas’ Oil Derrick, a 300-foot tall steel structure that looks like a real oil well, could require coatings that can stand up to constant sun exposure to minimize color fading and paint chipping.”
Allen noted that Six Flags will be using a wide range of PPG products.
“One of the PPG paint products to be used as part of the agreement is PPG PERMANIZER paint,” added Allen. “The product’s 100% acrylic latex provides a premium, long-lasting finish with a durable film, super adhesion and industry-leading protection from ultraviolet light (UV), dirt and moisture. The agreement’s wide-ranging portfolio of PPG products also includes PPG AMERLOCK 2 coatings with low volatile organic compounds (VOC), PPG PSX 700 products, PPG PSX 800 coatings, PPG FASTDRY 35 products, PPG TRUEFINISH products, Matthews Protective Coatings and various PPG DELFLEET products.”
