HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams Introduces New-and-Improved Paint Products

The Covid-19 pandemic’s impact on consumers’ employment of their homes as their go-to place for working, exercising, entertaining and relaxing has given them reason (and time) to re-evaluate leveraging these spaces for optimal use.

According to Ashley Banbury, senior color designer, HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams, there is an increase in homeowners’ desire to separate areas of their abode that they use for work purposes from their leisurely activities. Everlast Exterior Paint & Primer

Everlast Exterior Paint & Primer formula is considered the brand’s most premium exterior paint offering. Now with Self-Cleaning Technology and Extreme All-Weather Protection, exterior surfaces applied with the new and improved 100% acrylic enamel paint and primer easily rinses away dirt and residue during rain showers or with a garden hose.

The new formula’s ultra-smooth application provides a beautiful finish with exceptional resistance to scuff marks and scratches. With the maximum durability, comes unsurpassed stain repellency, as common stains wash off easily.

This 100% acrylic urethane enamel applies like an alkyd, but delivers characteristics painters would expect of a water-based paint, like soap and water cleanup. Alkyd paints provide a hard, durable finish with excellent flow and leveling properties for ease of application, according to Mindeck.

Mold and mildew resistant, this durable formula gives surfaces an exceptionally tough, factory-like finish that goes on ultra-smooth with the nuisance of brush marks.

Flat, Satin, and Semi-Gloss Finishes: A Breakdown

Coatings come in flat, satin and semi-gloss finishes, but to the first-time homeowner and home improvement project newbie, these options can leave such individuals in a standstill as they scratch their head on which to use where. Here, Mindeck breaks down what each one means and its proper use.

Flat Finish

Appropriate for shutters and exterior siding, flat paints have virtually no gloss and are excellent for hiding surface imperfections and underlying colors, says Mikula. However, they also provide minimal washability and durability; yields a matte finish that’s stain-resistant.

Satin Finish

With a medium shine or gloss appearance, satin finishes are easy to wipe down as they offer overall washability, scrub resistance and durability. Best used for exterior siding, doors, windows and shutters.

Semi-Gloss Finish

Best applied to walls in high-traffic areas such as trims, doors, windows and shutters, a semi-gloss finish is highly washable and scrub- and stain-resistant.
