Company, industry and government leaders gathered virtually yesterday to honor Archie Cotcher’s 70-year career at AkzoNobel. Archie began his career with Pontiac Varnish Company in 1952 (Pontiac, Michigan, USA). March 31st, 2022, was last day as an AkzoNobel employee.
During his career in Troy and Pontiac, Archie developed an expertise in dispersion technology unmatched in the company, and perhaps the industry. He shared his knowledge with other AkzoNobel employees, and his conributions enabled the company’s success in several automotive segments, including our business with Navistar and, more recently, candy colors.
CEO Thierry Vanlancker thanked Archie not only for 70 years, but for the outstanding contributions he made right up until his final days at work.

Rep. Kuppa presented Archie with a tribute from the State of Michigan signed by the State’s Governor, Lt. Governor and others. Archie also received recognition from the American Coatings Association and Oakland County Executive David Coulter.
In a practice common among top-performing legacy athletes, the Troy site retired Archie’s labcoat. A framed labcoat (complete with paint splatter) and plaque commemorating his seven-decade career now hangs in the lab where he worked for the last 30 years of his career.
