Q: So Tyler, tell us about yourself.
A: Well, my background is in Chemical Engineering, earning my degrees from Georgia Tech and North Carolina State University. Prior to joining Keim in April 2021, I was an academic tutor, working primarily with STEM majors and SAT/ACT students. Suffice it to say, I am more than a little “green” in this industry! Despite this, I have enjoyed learning its intricacies, discovering something new every day. Knowledge really is power, and my goal is to leverage my teaching skillset to provide clients a more informed (and lucrative) experience.
Q: To the casual onlooker, who is Keim-Additec?
A: Keim-Additec USA is a specialty chemicals company, providing innovative additive technology since our founding in 1988. We are primarily known for our wax technology, boasting one of the largest and most diverse catalogs of wax additives available on the market today. However, we’ve since expanded our catalog to include other technologies, furthering our ability to serve a variety of markets from coatings to plastics and beyond. Our team underwent an overhaul in 2021 (when I came on board), and we are more synergistic than ever. We look forward to demonstrating that in the years to come!
Q: How is Keim-Additec different from other distributors?
A: We take pride in getting to know our customers personally, tailoring the experience to suit their specific needs. This is further enhanced by our backward integration. The products we supply are synthesized in-house and sourced from close international partners, giving us very fine control over every step of our supply chain. Add that to us having some of the highest performance additives on the market and you have the makings of an excellent customer experience, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Q: Are there any new projects the company is working on?
A: As you may know, PTFE is currently under regulatory scrutiny due to the presence of PFOA and PFAS by-products, which are health hazards. In preparation for a potential ban on PTFE products, many companies are scrambling to replace PTFE in their formulations, creating a sort of “arms race” among manufacturers to create adequate replacements to this unique technology. To accomplish this task, we at Keim-Additec are looking to other waxes to fill the gaps left by PTFE, finding synergy between familiar technology and new applications. I plan to share more during my presentation at this year’s American Coatings Show, but in short, the future is promising!
