Welcome to the official LinkedIn page of Berger Paints India Limited. ‘A Legacy of Trust and Innovating for Future’ – the driving forces of Berger Paints – reflect the very spirit of its founder Lewis Berger – who laid the foundations of brand Berger way back in 1760 in the UK. With modest beginnings in India in 1923, we are celebrating a century of inspiring beautiful spaces.
Berger Paints India Limited is the second largest paint company in the country with a consistent track record of being the fastest growing, quarter on quarter, for the past few years. Committed to being a responsible corporate citizen with importance to our customers, Berger proactively pursues strategies both within and without that bring multiple societal and environmental benefits to all stakeholders.
Markets Served: Decorative coatings, Automotive coatings, Industrial coatings, Powder coatings
Berger Paints India Limited manufactures and markets a range of decorative and industrial paint products and has operations throughout India with seven manufacturing facilities, more than 135 depots, approximately 4,000 employees and more than 15,000 dealers. Architectural/decorative coatings comprise 85.3% of sales, automotive 2.8%, general industrial 2.4%, protective coatings 8.4%, auto refinish 0.3% and powder 0.8%.
In this year’s CEO Forum, Abhijit Roy, managing director and CEO, said, “2024 has been an eventful year for the industry, marked by some demand headwinds with many industry players not faring as well as in earlier years. However, Berger Paints will deliver high single-digit volume growth and muted value growth coming on the back of a 5% price decrease taken last year in decorative paints that constitutes close to 80% of our business. The industrial and protective coatings businesses did better, clocking healthy volume and value sales growth. The industry is also seeing increased competition, with several new entrants over the past 12-24 months, leading to a more dynamic and competitive landscape. We anticipate a period of market adjustment and realignment as a result.”

In this year’s CEO Forum Abhijit Roy, managing director and CEO said, “2023 has been a reasonably good year for Berger in a paints market that had moderate growth. We had a double-digit volume growth YTD December and a very strong operating profit growth on the back of raw material price reduction. We have achieved most of the goals that we had set for ourselves at the beginning of the year. Our distribution expansion for one, has happened at a faster clip than before. Many of our key categories like construction chemicals, emulsions and automotive paints have shown significant improvement this year. In the first three quarters, we have been very competitive with our peers in the market with very healthy profit growth in the third quarter. And having turned 100 years in India in the last month of the year, we are now approaching 2024 with a great sense of expectation and optimism.”

2023 Success Story
Berger Paints India Limited manufactures and markets a range of decorative and industrial paint products and has operations throughout India with seven manufacturing facilities, more than 135 depots, approximately 4,000 employees and more than 15,000 dealers. Architectural/decorative coatings comprise 85.8% of sales, automotive 2.7%, general industrial 2.5%, protective coatings 8%, auto refinish 0.2% and powder 0.8%.
In this year’s CEO Forum, Abhijit Roy noted, “all segments of the Indian paint market have seen a complete revival from the temporary, pandemic-induced slowdown in demand. While 2021 largely saw a return of demand for architectural decorative products, 2022 saw the wheel turn full-circle and a revival of demand from the industrial and automotive segments as well. Like the rest of the industry worldwide, we too saw an unprecedented and continued pressure on raw material prices and consequent pressure on the bottom-line. Throughout the year, our push for revenue growth was balanced with actions taken to maintain our margins. Berger has been driving a cost-awareness program, while working on improving productivity and realizations from some consumer segments.
“We have had three good quarters of revenue growth and expect a strong fourth quarter as well, with some recovery of EBITDA margins.
2022 Success Story
Berger Paints India Limited manufactures and markets a range of decorative and industrial paint products and has operations throughout India with seven manufacturing facilities, more than 135 depots, approximately 4,000 employees and more than 15,000 dealers. Architectural/decorative coatings comprise 86.8% of sales, automotive 2.4%, general industrial 2.5%, protective coatings 7%, auto refinish 0.2% and powder 1.1%.
In this year’s CEO Forum, Abhijit Roy noted the paints and coatings market in India faced and successfully weathered a lot of headwinds in 2021. “The economy, that had revived after the 2020 pandemic, stuttered again as the new fiscal began with yet another wave of the pandemic. But India brought it under control with the world’s largest vaccination drive. Raw material prices hardened throughout the year and all companies had to take a series of price increases.”
However, the Indian market has time and again proven to be resilient and demand in the decorative paints segment, held up well,” he added. “Protective coatings business is back on even keel. Industrial and automotive segments have revived, though it will take a while for demand to hit pre-pandemic levels. Overall Berger Paints has registered good top-line growth in the first three quarters. Increased input costs have muted bottom-line growth overall for the industry.”
