Highlights trade policy, association priorities and expanded member programs.
The Color Pigments Manufacturers Association (CPMA), the leading voice for the North American color pigments supply chain, held its Spring Board Meeting on May 6 during the 2026 American Coatings Show, which took place May 5-7 in Indianapolis, IN.
The meeting brought together industry leaders, board members, guests and value chain partners for a networking breakfast, an executive briefing on trade and tariff policy, and strategic discussions focused on association priorities and evolving business, regulatory and market challenges shaping the pigments sectorin 2026.
Trade and Tariff Policy
The meeting featured an executive briefing on trade and tariff policy by Samir Varma, partner at Thompson Hine LLP, who provided insights into evolving trade and tariff dynamics affecting the global pigments supply chain.
The discussion highlighted the growing challenges companies face as they navigate shifting trade policies and an increasingly complex regulatory and geopolitical landscape, and examined key considerations and the path forward for IEEPA tariff refunds. The session reinforced the importance of timely industry intelligence and practical guidance as businesses respond to increasing customer questions related to tariffs and a rapidly evolvingtrade environment.
CPMA welcomed Thompson Hine LLP as its newest member, further expanding the association’s network of affiliate service providers, pigment manufacturers, processors, and raw material suppliers. The addition of Thompson Hine LLP strengthens CPMA’s expertise in trade, tariffs, sustainability, and regulatory matters.
Strategic Priorities and 2026 Outlook
The board reviewed association priorities and strategic direction for 2026 and beyond. CPMA’s strategic goals focus on several core pillars, including:
• Advocacy and regulatory influence
• Value chain collaboration and partnerships
• Industry leadership in sustainability
• CPMA member network growth
• Industry intelligence and communications
• A culture of innovation and leadership
As part of its strategic initiatives, CPMA is conducting a member survey designed to better assess member needs and identify opportunities to strengthen and expand member programs.
Working with its members, CPMA plans to advance several key initiatives, including the development of a policy principles framework to help benchmark future legislation and regulatory proposals affecting the pigments sector. The association is also evaluating opportunities to expand its pigments-focused forums and networking initiatives with increased emphasis on value chain collaboration, policy engagement, and industry intelligence.
Expanding Advocacy, IndustryIntelligence and Member Engagement
CPMA continues to strengthen its advocacy, industry intelligence and member programs through expanded educational webinars, enhanced value chain partnerships and increased dialogue with policymakers, regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders on issues impacting the pigments sector.
This year, the association launched an FDA regulatory webinar series in partnership with the National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM) and Steptoe LLP. The series provides expert insights on regulatory requirements and policy developments related to food contact applications. CPMA also introduced a quarterly Town Hall series designed to keep members informed of latest association initiatives, emerging industry trends and key issues impacting the pigments industry.
In addition, CPMA will host its third annual Sustainability and Innovation Forum this fall, bringing together stakeholders from across the pigments value chain to share perspectives, discuss industry priorities and work together to advance sustainable color solutions. Through these initiatives, CPMA continues to foster dialogue and engagement across the supply chain, providing forums for discussion and collaboration on the evolving challenges and opportunities shaping the future of the industry.
