Las Vegas is known for its constant state of chaos and never-ending energy. Consequently, in order to stand out along the sensational strip, a project needs to pull out all of the stops. Owners of The LINQ retail development, hotel and casino, a part of Caesars Entertainment Corporation, knew they needed something out of the ordinary to draw guests into the 300,000 square-foot retail, dining and entertainment complex. The goal for designers from Henzel Design and David M. Schwartz Architects was to match the frenetic energy of the strip in a physical way and create an inviting atmosphere surrounding the hotel, casino and shopping destination. With the aid of Klai Juba Wald Architects, the project designers settled on a complex vortex-shaped canopy and a rooftop deck that appears liquid, dynamic and ever-changing due to the varying reflections produced by the included LED lights. The canopy was formed from 60,000 square-feet of Engineered Wall System Inc.’s 400 series rainscreen system using ALPOLIC Material’s fire-retardant (FR) core aluminum composite material (ACM). These metal panels feature Sherwin-Williams Coil Coating‘s Valflon® coating in Platinum Mica, Champagne Mica and Silver Metallic. Valflon was the ideal choice for this specific project, as it required a bold look with lots of gloss and shine. Even better, this coating is highly resistant to weathering, airborne chemicals, acid rain and graffiti-removing cleaning solvents. A 30-foot cigar-shaped column that matches other support structures throughout The LINQ’s facilities supports the rooftop deck. These columns were particularly difficult to fabricate, as each metal panel has a varying size and shape, yet all needed to perfectly align to cover the outside of the support structure. The LINQ grounds also host the world’s tallest observation wheel, the High Roller, which offers stunning scenic views of the surrounding area that includes The LINQ Promenade, an open-air shopping center, O’Sheas casino and The Auto Collections, the world’s largest classic car showroom. As a celebration of the city’s vibrant energy, The LINQ’s canopy rooftop deck has been used to host fashion shows and concerts, and the hotel is recognized as a social hub for trend-setters and partiers alike. Clearly, this space fits right in amongst the other buildings lining the strip, keeping up with Vegas’ reputation of offering splendor and excitement unmatched by any other place in the world. Thanks to the durability of Valflon, the structure will continue to showcase that sparkle for which Vegas is known. Project Overview
