The Nova Paint Club, which has 11 member companies operating in over 80 countries, met in Bogota, Colombia on April 24-27 to celebrate 30 years since its foundation in 1983. The event was hosted by Andres Ortega, general manager of Colombian member Pintuco, part of the Mundial Group. Pacific Paint (Boysen) becomes the newest member of the group after being elected to full membership at the Bogota meeting. Boysen is the market leader in the Philippines. Vice president, Johnson Onking said: “Nova is a unique organisation with global prestige. We are delighted and honoured to join the group and look forward to playing a full part in its development in the future.” Michael Dayan, Nova president and CEO of Israeli paint company Tambour said: “This is an exciting time for Boysen to be joining us here at Nova. We’re thrilled to have such an important company on board as we look forward to new ways of collaborating over the next 30 years.” The group held a marketing meeting in Bogota to discuss expanding the recent collaboration projects on colour trends, common colour documentation and sustainability. They also planned future areas where the group can work productively together. The Nova board met to talk about some key trends in the global paint market and attend presentations from outside experts. The keynote speech was given by Professor Antas Mokus, who spoke on “peaceful co-existence applied to companies”, a topic perfect for a global organisation like Nova. The board then visited Pintuco’s impressive franchise stores around the city of Bogota. The meeting in Colombia represented former Nova president and executive member Joao Serrenho’s final appearance on the Nova executive committee. Andres Ortega of Pintuco was elected to the executive in his place. Peter Lovell, Nova secretary general, presented Serrenho with the Nova gold and diamond pin, as he became the first person to receive the group’s highest award. “This award is a wonderful surprise and greatly appreciated. Nova has been a significant part of my life for 30 years and its values are as important now as they were when we formed,” Serrenho said. The next board meeting of the Nova Paint Club will be hosted by Barnices Valentine in October 2013 in Madrid, Spain. It will be held alongside a meeting of Nova’s technical directors. The Nova Paint Club is an international organization founded in 1983 to provide a framework for leading global independent paint companies to benefit from exchanges of technical information, technology and expertise in all areas of their operations. The Nova Paint Club currently has 11 core members with their main operations based in Argentina (Sinteplast SA), Canada (Cloverdale Paint Inc), Colombia (Pintuco), Germany (Votteler Lackfabrik GmbH & Co), Greece, (Druckfarben Hellas SA), India, (Asian Paints), Israel (Tambour Ltd), The Philippines (Boysen), Portugal (CIN SA), Spain (Barnices Valentine S.A.), and the USA (Vogel Paint Inc). These companies also have other operations and/or subsidiaries, which extends their total involvement to around 80 countries throughout the world.
