Valspar Selects Epic Adventure as 2025 Color of the Year

Blue is a timeless color that often appears as a Color of the Year selection. It is a color that is equally beautiful inside and outside of the home, either as a highlight or color drenching.

For 2025, Valspar has selected Epic Adventure V073-6, a deep atmospheric blue hue, as its Color of the Year. As a quick note, Epic Adventure is the name the paint can be found at independent retailers; the shade is found as Encore 8002-45G at Lowe’s. Sue Kim, director of color marketing at Valspar, observed that Epic Adventure is ideal for both traditional and modern looks.

“Encore is a color for any space or application. Timeless and familiar, Epic Adventure’s deep atmospheric blue hue infuses a backdrop of joy and playfulness into any living space, both interior and exterior,” said Kim.

“Because it bridges both traditional and modern aesthetics and color palettes, Epic Adventure makes for a great foundational or accent color throughout a variety of spaces such as bedrooms, kitchens, home and garage exteriors and more,” Kim added. “Epic Adventure V073-6 helps create an environment that feels joyful and exciting while remaining grounded in a hue that is simultaneously reminiscent of the past and futuristic.”

Kim noted that there are many factors that go into selecting the Color of the Year.

“When selecting the Color of the Year, Valspar’s team of color, design and style experts draw from research and observations surrounding global lifestyle trends across culture, media, fashion, design, technology and even food to help choose the color that best represents what is to come,” said Kim. “Homeowners are currently craving happier living spaces through color while also seeking décor and color palettes that feel timeless.”

Interestingly, Valspar went with Renew Blue, a lighter, cooler blue shade, as its 2024 Color of the Year. Naturally, Epic Adventure and Renew Blue play well together.

“This is a time of transition into a positive and joyful mood,” Kim said. “Renew Blue focused on relaxation and wellbeing and Epic Adventure, a bolder blue shade, layers well with Renew Blue to create a harmonized space.

Kim noted that the selection of Epic Adventure continues trends of recent years.
