CCR Specialty Chemicals was founded in 2018 as a result of the combination of Crowley Chemical and Rusmar. Crowley Chemical was founded in 1920. The company has headquarters in New York City and manufacturing facilities in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Kent, Ohio. Rusmar was founded in 1986 and has a manufacturing site in West Chester, Pennsylvania and an R&D facility in Pennsauken, New Jersey. CCR Specialty Chemicals was created last year with the acquisition of Crowley Chemical and Rusmar and the help of private equity. CCR employees approximately 50 employees. Customized Solutions One thing that sets CCR apart is the fact that their CEO and senior management are all chemists. This comes into play when it comes to innovation. They understand the molecules, compounds and chemical structures so intimately that they can quickly customize solutions to meet each individual customer’s needs. In fact, 95 percent of what CCR does is custom solutions. “Our real strength is in our application knowledge and ability to customize our products to each customer’s needs,” said Philip Johnson, president and CEO of CCR Specialty Chemicals. “We tailor products for both improved performance and cost reduction. We are part of the formulation design.” CCR offers a diverse range of products for the construction coatings, mining and recycling and asphalt remediation industries. The company manufactures foam products used in a wide variety of markets and applications, including the foam coating of mines for greater health and safety and the foam coating of large waste dumps to eliminate odor, reduce the number of trucks deliveries full of dirt and reduce the dump’s size. This can be achieved because the foam coatings are relatively thin but highly effective. CCR focuses on offering its customers tailored-made solutions. Specialty aromatic oil blends represent one of its major product lines. These products are used by compounders to extend aromatic polyurethanes, epoxy resins, aromatic based rubbers, PVC plastisols and unsaturated polyester resins. CCR also offers a line of products derived from coal tar, a by-product from Metallurgical Coke production. These coal tar products are used in a variety of applications including roofing and coatings, corrosion inhibitors and refractory. CCR has ambitious plans for the future – forecasting double-digit organic growth as these innovative and highly efficacious foam coatings roll out to the markets they serve.
