CHINACOAT2019 (the 24th edition of the China International Exhibition for Coatings, Printing Inks and Adhesives) will be held Nov. 18-20 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) in Shanghai, China. The event will span 8.5 exhibition halls (Halls E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, E7, W1, W2 & W3) – more than 97,000 square meters of exhibition space. More than 1,230 exhibitors from 32 countries/regions will come together to present their products and services in 5 exhibit zones, namely “Powder Coatings Technology,” “UV/EB Technology & Products,” “International Machinery, Instrument & Services,” “China Machinery, Instrument & Services” and “China & International Raw Materials.” The total net exhibition area of the ‘UV/EB Technology & Products’ exhibit zone continues to expand noticeably (a rise of 21 percent against 2018 Guangzhou show), resulting from a more mature sector with increasing applications and innovations. Last year, CHINACOAT saw a total of 35,540 trade visitors from 91 countries/regions, 1,291 exhibitors from 31 countries/regions in a gross exhibition area of more than 78,500 square meters. That represented a 3.2 percent increase in visitors and a 68 percent increase in exhibitors from 2017. Show organizer Sinostar is expecting more than 30 percent growth on the amount of eco-friendly or sustainable exhibits being showcased, resulting from stricter environmental regulations in China and the world. Demands for high-performance coating materials, such as waterborne resins and high-quality TiO2, continue to thrive to achieve high-quality manufacturing and greater sustainability. CHINACOAT has been a strategic destination for technological highlights and innovations of the coatings industry, attracting world market leaders for their presence in Shanghai. Confirmed participants include Afcona, Allnex, Ashland, Buhler, BYK, Chemours, Clariant, Covestro, Delta Specialties, DIC, DSM, Dukepolytech, ECKART, Elementis, Eternal, Evonik, H.J. Unkel, Hexion, Kroma, LANXESS, LOTTE, Omya, Silok, Synthomer and Wanhua. Sinostar reported that in recent years, global trends in coatings, paints and related materials have been in two main areas of high-performance multifunctional coatings and environmentally friendly materials and processes. The two driving forces for these technologies have been the recognition of their economic values, technical benefits and global desire to produce safer products and heathier environment. The result of such movements has been the development of high performance and high valued coating materials. Technical Programs, CHINACOAT Conference CHINACOAT2019 will feature several technical programs onsite, including Technical Seminars, Conference, Technical Workshops and Country Presentation. The 17th CHINACOAT Conference will focus on technical topics relating to “High-Performance Coatings – Defining Next Generation of Coating Solutions” Nov. 18-19. The Conference covers 13 papers and will discuss the technology, properties, application of high performance and high valued coatings and future trends. In addition, the Conference is intended to act as a platform for academicians, researchers, formulators, and engineers to share their thoughts and ideas on trends in coating technologies and materials. Session I of the conference will be comprised of the following presentations: Chairman’s Address, “Global Trends in Coatings and Paint Technologies,” presented by Prof. Jamil Baghdachi of Eastern Michigan University; “Different Approaches to Achieve a Better Wetting of Waterborne Coatings,” presented by Dr. Guillaume Jaunky of BYK-Chemie GmbH, Germany; and “Silica Nanoparticle-Based Antifouling Surface Coatings,” presented Dr. Dan Yang, post-doctoral fellow, University of Wolongong, Australia. Session II of the conference will offer the following presentations: “Innovative Moisture Curing Vinyl Alkoxysilane Polymer for High-Performance Coatings,” presented by Denis Heymans, senior technology leader, Hexion; “How It Works: Waterborne 2K PU Coatings Theory & Practice,” presented by Prof. Wang Wusheng of Anhui University, China; “Fluoropolymer (PVDF)-Based Waterborne Coatings,” presented by Scott Zhang, head of Business Development, Arkema’s Technical Polymers Business Unit, China; “Unique Cobalt-Free Catalyst for Improved Dry Times and Other Added Benefits in Oxidative Cured Systems,” presented by Kellie Salerno, technical service specialist, Borchers Inc.; and “Copper-Containing Glass Ceramic with High Antimicrobial Efficacy,” presented by Dr. Joydeep Lahiri, Division VP & program director, Specialty Surfaces Corning R&D Corp. Session III of the conference, which begins Nov. 19, will feature the following presentations: “Analysis of EU’s 420 g/L VOC Limit for Car Refinish Topcoats,” presented by Dr. TZ Liu; GM, Semeka Chemical Co., Ltd.; “Synthesis & Properties of Castor Oil-Based Resin for Coatings,” presented by Prof. Shen Liang of Jiangxi Science and Technology Normal University, China; and “Multiple Effects of TiO2 Pigment on Paint Gloss Retention,” presented by Dr. Michael P. Diebold, technical fellow Technology, Chemours Company. Session IV concludes with: “Development of Nanometer Transparent Functional Coatings,” presented by Prof. Zhao Shilin of Nanjing University of Technology, China; and “New Isocyanate for High-Performance Polyurethane Coatings,” presented by Maggie Yu, lab manager, Vencorex France. The first workshop is Optimizing Benefits of TiO2 in Paints, led by Dr. Diebold. The second workshop is Rational Formulation Technologies in Waterborne Coatings, led by Prof. Baghdachi. The third workshop, led by Dr. Cai Yu, BSc, Ph.D., TS & D scientist, Dow Coating Materials, Dow Chemical Co., Ltd., is Design & Application of Waterborne Industrial Coatings. Since 1996, the show has been an annual meeting place for the industry to gather and exchange ideas and alternates its venue city annually between Guangzhou and Shanghai. Exhibiting Hours Nov. 18th (Mon.) 9:00 A.M. – 5:30 P.M. Nov. 18th (Tues) 9:00 A.M. – 5:30 P.M Nov. 18th (Wed.) 9:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. .
