The COVID-19 crisis continues to disrupt everyday life around the globe. As experts work to stop the spread of this deadly virus, the coatings industry is contributing to the fight as well. Many coatings companies and their suppliers are donating masks, hand sanitizer and other essential supplies to healthcare workers.
BASF Corporation is providing the states of New Jersey and New York with hand sanitizer, manufactured at the company’s facility in Washington, NJ, free of charge.
The sanitizing product will help meet the increased demands needed to safely combat the COVID-19 pandemic. BASF does not regularly produce hand sanitizer at the Washington location, but a team of BASF scientists and engineers worked on a compressed timeline to develop a safe and high-quality product.
PPG and the PPG Foundation jointly announced they will contribute more than $1.5 million to organizations supporting immediate community relief efforts and emerging recovery needs amid the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis.
Other paint and coatings companies are working to supply coatings for hospitals.
Axalta recently announced that it will supply E&R Powder Coating with more than 7,000 pounds of its Alesta AM powder coatings for bed frames at a temporary hospital at McCormick Place in Chicago, which is being used for coronavirus patients.
Nippon Paint and Corning Inc. have developed a special coating to protect workers from viruses on painted surfaces. Nippon Paint’s Antivirus Kids Paint, developed specifically for frontline hospital use, incorporates Corning Guardiant Antimicrobial Particles – a nascent technology designed to safeguard against viruses from adhering to hospital surfaces.
Coatings World has added a COVID-19 Industry Monitor section to our website. This site, dedicated to all things related to the pandemic, is updated daily with all the latest paint and coatings news as it relates to the COVID-19 crisis.
