According to Market Research Future, the coating resins market size was valued at $19.1 billion in 2022 and is projected to grow from $20.1 billion in 2023 to $30.66 billion by 2030, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.3% during the forecast period (2023 – 2030). Coating resins are used to formulate a variety of performance characteristics including corrosion resistance, hardness, stain resistance and weather resistance. Resins provide quick drying times, shine retention and superior weather coatings. Engineered Polymer Solutions (EPS) recently launched a new all-acrylic polymer for cutting-edge flat through semi-gloss interior and exterior architectural coatings. “EPS 2746 is a versatile polymer for architectural DIY and professional paint formulations,” said Robert Sandoval, Ph.D. EPS R&D director. “It sets itself apart by offering exceptional performance without any added fluorosurfactants and can be formulated into near-zero VOC coatings.” Key features of EPS 2746 are scrub resistance over a wide formulation space, stain removal, washability and self-priming properties. This new polymer is ideal for exterior applications due to its exceptional resistance to dirt pickup. “We are proud to announce that EPS 2746 is our fourth product launch in 2024,” said Makarand Gawade, EPS global marketing director. “Our steadily growing portfolio stands as a testament to our commitment to excellence, innovation, and, most importantly, our customers. We are creating unique solutions that anticipate the evolving needs of the market.” EPS is also expanding its industrial wood portfolio with the launch of EPS 2460, a new all-acrylic polymer that is an exceptional choice for flat through semi-gloss coatings. “The proprietary technology in EPS 2460 enables our customers to develop products that meet their performance requirements without the use of intentionally added fluorosurfactants,” said Sandoval. “Wood coatings created using this new polymer deliver outstanding performance for exterior applications, offering increased durability, exceptional adhesion, hardness, block and chemical resistance.” EPS 2460 was designed for factory-applied high-performance exterior pigmented wood coatings used in a wide range of applications such as decks, shutters, windows and doors. It’s also a recommended choice for interior applications like kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Arkema has achieved a new milestone in its sustainability journey with ISCC PLUS certification of its Nansha site in China. The Mass Balance* approach enables the group to launch a new range of bio-attributed UV/LED/EB curable resins in Asia. It will support the development of more sustainable solutions for fast-growing applications in local markets, such as advanced electronics, new energies, green mobility, living comfort and home efficiency. This certification expands the Sartomer UV/LED/EB curing resin solutions from renewable and lower carbon footprint origin. It offers a new range of bio-attributed resins, reinforcing the already existing bio-segregated offer containing up to 85% biobased content. “This certification ensures the availability of high-quality bio-attributed products to support our customers and value chain partners in the region in achieving their end-markets, as well as their own sustainability development targets,” said Terry Lin, general manager Sartomer Greater China Global. The ISCC PLUS certification of Arkema UV/LED/EB curable resins manufacturing site in Nansha, China, following same certification in Villers-Saint-Paul, France, is another step towards completing a network of ISCC PLUS-certified plants worldwide. It accelerates Arkema’s strategy to progressively introduce a complete range of bio-attributed specialty resins and additives, such as high solids, waterborne, UV/LED/EB, and polyester powders. Building on its expertise in materials science, Arkema offers a portfolio of technologies to address the ever-growing demand for new and sustainable materials. With the ambition to become in 2024 a pure player in specialty materials, the group is structured into three complementary, resilient, and highly innovative segments dedicated to Specialty Materials – Adhesive Solutions, Advanced Materials, and Coating Solutions – accounting for some 92% of group sales in 2023, and a well-positioned and competitive Intermediates segment. Arkema offers cutting-edge technological solutions to meet the challenges of, among other things, new energies, access to water, recycling, urbanization, and mobility, and fosters a permanent dialogue with all its stakeholders. The group reported sales of approximately €9.5 billion in 2023 and operates in some 55 countries with 21,100 employees worldwide. * Mass Balance: Mass balance chain of custody is designed to track the total amount of the content in scope through the production system and ensure an appropriate allocation of this content to the finished goods based on auditable bookkeeping. Property conservation principle is set to ensure that the total certified output does not exceed its original input and take into account the appropriate conversion losses and production / assembly ratios. “The ISSC+ certification of the whole supply chain guarantees that the origin of the renewable sources meets ISCC+ standards for sustainable feedstocks.
