Sherwin-Williams recently purchased Datacolor ColorReader Pro for their Color Express™ Powder Program to improve their customers’ powder finishing productivity.
Released By Datacolor
January 27, 2020
The future of powder coatings is bright. Calculated at $11.10 billion dollars in 2018, a new report from Reports and Data indicates that the global powder coatings market is expected to reach $16.55 billion dollars by 2024 and $18.32 billion by 2026. This is in response to increasing demands for eco-responsible coatings solutions, ever-expanding markets such as aluminum extrusion used in building materials such as window and door frames, and kitchen, bath and electrical fixtures, as well as a growing usage in agricultural equipment, electronics, office cabinetry and exercise equipment. Central to the powder coatings market is color matching accuracy, consistency, and quick response times. Too often this process can be both time-consuming and unpredictable, which is why paint and coatings manufacturer Sherwin-Williams met with Datacolor, a leader in color management, for a solution to these challenges. Sherwin-Williams recently purchased Datacolor ColorReader Pro for their Color Express™ Powder Program to improve their customers’ powder finishing productivity. Color Express was designed to reduce the time it takes for powder finishers to match, receive and apply powder. Datacolor worked with Sherwin-Williams to customize their ColorReaders with pre-loaded, Sherwin-Williams brand in-stock powder product matches. According to the company, by implementing this technology, paired with local in-stock inventory, coaters can reduce match and order times significantly – beginning a customer’s job request in days instead of weeks. Currently, Sherwin-Williams stocks popular powder products such as RAL and Powdura and plans on including additional in-stock products over time. We had the opportunity to ask Tabitha L. McLeish, Global Marketing Director, Powder, some questions about the powder coatings industry and how the ColorReader Pro factors into their business approach: How do powder coatings fit into Sherwin-Williams’ product offerings? Powder Coatings are an important part of the Sherwin-Williams product portfolio. Our powder coatings protect and beautify products across a wide array of industries throughout the world. These products include heavy equipment, metal building products, and an array of general finishes and items used in transportation, military, design and other industries. Like overall industry forecasts, we anticipate a steady growth for our powder coatings market over the next several years driven by global economic growth, continued advancements in technology, tightening environmental regulations worldwide and increased applications and acceptance of powder coatings as an alternative to other coating methods.
