Hexion Specialty Chemicals has announced plans to begin construction of a monomer manufacturing plant in Onsan, Korea. The plant, which will produce Cardura monomer, a Versatic acid derivative, will be constructed within an existing manufacturing complex of the company in Onsan. Cardura monomer is used as a key raw material in environmentally friendly paint and coatings, such as automotive clear coats, coil coatings and marine coatings where high solid, water-based formulations and low VOCs are required. Construction of the new facility will begin in the first quarter and completion is slated before the end of the year.
