Exhibitors highlighted new products, with an emphasis on more sustainable technologies.
The 2025 European Coatings Show is now in the books, show organizers, attendees and exhibitors agree that the record-setting show was a success.
The show, which is organized by Vincentz Network GmbH & Co. KG, was held at Messe Nurnberg March 25-27, 2025, with 25,681 industry executives on hand to meet with the 1,216 exhibitors from 46 countries, a new record. Meanwhile, the European Coatings Conference, which began on March 24, featured 144 presentations and drew 660 attendees. On the show floor, there were more than 100 product presentations on the two stages.
Attendees enjoyed the opportunity to learn about what was new on the show floor.
“It’s a good opportunity to see who’s doing what in terms of technology,” said Yoshihiro Tanaka, executive director for Kansai Hellas. “I had a lot of meetings with our key suppliers and their teams.”
Exhibitors reported that they enjoyed a successful show.
It’s been very busy for us,” said Robert Ruckle, global marketing and sales director at Siltech. “People are very interested and have an agenda – even the last day of the show has been busy. It’s by far the best show we go to.”
“The ECS was very successful for us; we were able to welcome significantly more visitors to our booth, meet lots of customers and establish numerous new contacts,” said Veronika Fischer, marketing manager, HOFFMANN MINERAL GmbH. “The booth party organized by our marketing department on the evening of the first day of the fair, featuring freshly tapped beer and Bavarian snacks, was also a complete success”.
Fischer added that the demand for natural and functional fillers for paints and coatings as well as for adhesives was enormous.
“Our family-owned company with a product ‘Made in Germany and sustainability were topics in almost every conversation at the exhibition,” Fischer observed.
Anja Kloth, EMEAI regional marketing manager for Lubrizol, reported that the European Coatings Show was a great success for Lubrizol.
“The show offered a tremendous opportunity to connect with many key players in the industry, to showcase our latest innovative technologies for coatings, and to introduce our new Lubrizol brand,” Kloth observed. “For nearly a century, Lubrizol has created extraordinary value at the intersection of life and science, creating breakthrough solutions for a variety of industries that enhance life and make the modern world work better. Our new brand expression allows us to celebrate that impact and represents the best of who we are today and our optimism for our next 100 years.
“We are proud that we have been able to present our new brand for the first time in the European market,” added Kloth. “Our new brand represents our global organization and our impact across industries and everyday life. Also, our innovative technology created a lot of interest leading to fruitful exchange and discussion. In particular, at this year’s show, we focused on 100% active dispersions, dispersant for water-based coatings, PTFE-free wax alternatives, high-solid wax additives, polyamide-based PUDs, and high-solids PUD technology.”
“We consider ECS to be the premier industrial coatings trade show for Micro Powders,” Micro Powders VP Rich Czarnecki said. “We always look forward to re-engaging with our existing customer base, as well as meeting new customers looking to improve the performance of their paints, inks, and coatings. We walked away with a record number of customer leads, which is always a great indicator of a successful show.”
Czarnecki said that many customers visiting Micro Powders’ booth were actively looking for alternatives to PFAS and PTFE-based coating additives.
“With our portfolio of products, most of which are commercially proven, we can offer performance as good as, or in many cases better than PTFE, and often with better overall economics,” Czarnecki noted. “Our new value engineered SuperGlide 1231 drew lots of attention as an alternative to PTFE with high lubricity, high melting point, and outstanding abrasion and scratch resistance performance. For powder coatings, our MicroTex 950 has already been commercially approved by several large customers to replace traditional PTF- based powder coating texturizers.”
“Arxada is deeply committed to the paints and coatings industry, and ECS is the ideal venue for connecting with customers and other industry leaders,” said Nigel Atkinson, VP – Paints & Coatings for Arxada. “It’s also the perfect venue for the global launches of our innovative Polyboost multifunctional additive that enhances paint properties while supporting lower preservative use rates, and our TIME controlled release dry-film preservatives.”
Julia Kleist, manager communications for BYK-Chemie GmbH, noted that ECS 2025 was a great success for BYK.
“With our large and inviting booth, we were able to draw a lot of attention to our main topics: sustainability, additive solutions for formulating PFAS-free systems and HTS, BYK's digital, fully automated laboratory,” Kleist said. “The booth was packed with visitors, especially on the first two days, but even on the last day, intensive technical discussions continued until the very last minute.
“We were especially pleased that so many visitors found their way to our booth,” Kleist noted. “We had the impression that there were more than ever before and that there was also depth in terms of content. We dared to experiment with live presentations directly at our booth, for which we had built a special arena, and it paid off for us and, I think, for our visitors as well. In addition to interesting technical presentations, we were able to offer our visitors easy access to the respective BYK experts.”
