In the spirit of the company founder Johann Berghofer, ADLER is still a family business today. Since 1999, the company has been in the third generation of Andrea Berghofer. As the leading Austrian paint and varnish manufacturer, ADLER supplies customers worldwide with high-tech products at the highest level. Austria’s leading manufacturer of varnishes, paints and wood preservatives, ADLER-Werk Lackfabrik is in its third generation of family ownership, with Andrea Berghofer serving as managing director. ADLER-Werk enjoyed growth more than 3% growth last year, with revenue of €165 million ($178 million). The company has 730 employees.
ADLER-Werk is best known for its waterborne products, which make up 67% of its production. Its best-known brands include Aviva, its interior paint line, and Pullex for wood coatings.
The company reports that it produced 21,000 tons of paints and coatings last year, and that 71% of its sales came from exports. Besides its domestic sales, ADLER-Werk exports its paints to Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Netherlands, Scandinavia, France, Spain, Great Britain, Ukraine, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Israel.
With the “Factory of the Future” expansion and modernisation project, ADLER is investing in its founding location in Schwaz, which will remain ADLER’s only production plant in the future. In the first construction phase, a modern raw materials logistics system will be built with a central, fully automated high-bay warehouse and connected pre-commissioning.
ADLER-Werk Lackfabrik is Austria’s leading manufacturer of varnishes, paints and wood preservatives. Now in its third generation of family ownership, ADLER-Werk had sales of €160 million ($171 million) in 2022: domestic sales accounted for 30%, while exports made up 70% of sales. Overall, the company manufactures 21,000 tons of paint and coatings, and has 720 employees and locations in nine countries.
Water-based coatings make up 65% of ADLER-Werk’s products, including brands like Aviva, its interior paint line, as well as Aquawood, Arova, Bluefin and Lignovit.
