Rock Jacket is a plant applied reinforced concrete pipe coating developed for rocky terrain, rough terrain configurations such as steep slopes and for road and river crossings. It has been designed to be buried directly in blasted out rock trenches without the use of other costly protective products and is ideal for both small and large diameter pipelines.
Shawcor’s pipe coating division has received a Letter of Intent with Saipem for the Yellowtail development project, located in the Stabroek block offshore Guyana at a water depth of approximately 1,800 meters. The company anticipates that it will receive a formal contract in the middle of 2022, subject to the necessary government authorizations. Project initiation is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2023 from Shawcor’s Veracruz, Mexico facility.
In addition to the LOI with Saipem, Shawcor has received formal contract awards from other customers for two smaller projects located in the Gulf of Mexico. Shawcor will provide coating services for these projects which will commence in the second quarter of 2022 from the company’s Veracruz facility.
Shawcor has been selected by TechnipFMC to provide pipeline insulation coating for the Mero 2 project. Located in offshore Brazil, the Mero field is in the deepwater Libra block of the pre-salt Santos Basin at a water depth of 2,100 meters.
This award comes as Shawcor wraps up successful execution of Mero 1, which began in 2019, out of its Serra, Brazil facility.

For a significant Argentine pipeline, Shawcor leveraged its local resources and expertise to provide a superior pipe coating system solution.
When construction of Argentina’s GNEA natural gas pipeline is complete, up to 27.7 million cubic meters of natural gas per day will be transported from the Margarita Gas Field in Bolivia to Argentina’s northern and central provinces. With approximately 925 miles (1,490 kilometers) of trunklines and 1,677 miles (2,700 kilometers) of branchlines required for the project, Argentina’s state-owned oil company, Enarsa, needed pipe coating solutions providers with the right logistics and installation support capabilities to ensure the integrity and performance of the pipeline for its lifetime use. Due to our coating facilities near Buenos Aires and our global experience on similar projects, Shawcor was selected to provide both the coating and transmission sleeves for the entire trunkline and portions of the branchlines on the GNEA pipeline system.
With Shawcor, Enarsa will realize its goal of ensuring the long-term pipeline performance and corrosion resistance of the GNEA pipeline system. Due to Shawcor’s conveniently located regional facility, which expedited the delivery of coated pipe to the project location, and its training resources, the company helped the project save time and money.

SureBond eliminates the adhesive layer and forms a bond with both the field joint and anti-corrosion layers.

The contract is scheduled to be executed at the Caspian Pipe Coatings (CPC) plant in Baku. Together with the previously awarded contracts relating to the Shah Deniz Stage 2 and the related South Caucasus Pipeline projects, Bredero Shaw has now secured contracts totaling more than $500 million on these projects.
