Are “McMansions” Giving
Way to Smaller, Cozy Homes?
America’s love of the “super-size” concept has affected everything from fast food to housing. Take the square footage a new home, which increased 55% between 1970 to 2004—all while the average family size has been on the decline (3.1 people to 2.6).
But according to a recent survey conducted by Lowe’s and Harris Interactive, U.S. homeowners might be rethinking the concept of less being more. According to the poll, 46% of homeowners admit to wasting up to half of their home.
