Sun Chemical’s booth, located in hall 10, stand 117, is showcasing a wide array of organic, pearlescent and metallic pigment lines.
“In today’s economy, our coatings customers are looking for more effect pigments, color options and additional ways to cut costs,” said Myron Petruch, president of Sun Chemical Performance Pigments. “We’re introducing new solutions that unlock opportunities for new revenue and open up new markets for customers, all while running a more efficient operation.”
The European Coatings Show is the launch pad for SunGEMä, a new industrial effect pigment product line from Sun Chemical that provides ten new shades of high chroma color with excellent opacity and pearlescent luster. SunGEM’s newest colors will help industrial designers set new trends and position their products apart from their competition, according to Sun.
In addition to new bold and brilliant colors, SunGEM offers magnetic alignment properties that bring colorful three dimensional effects to their coatings and end use applications.
Sun Chemical is also highlighting an extended natural pearlescent pigment line under the brand name SunMica.Visitors will be introduced to a full range of synthetic micas which provide improved clarity of color combined with increased pearlescent luster and sparkle. The new Sun Chemical pearlescent range offers silver whites, interference colors and the metallic sheen of golds, bronzes and russets. The pigments allow for unique styling and effect opportunities and are available in standard and weather resistant forms.
A variety of interactive displays and demonstrations at Sun Chemical’s booth allows visitors to witness firsthand what Sun Chemical’s pigments look like as a coating on a car, rim and other industrial products. A line of 12 Carrera slot cars painted using Sun Chemical’s pigments are on display at the showas well as four mini cars sprayed with the new SunGEM effect pigment.
Highlighted at the booth with the race cars is Sun Chemical’s Palomar Delta Blue 60, a durable reddish blue pigment for automotive coatings that also provides the potential to reduce paint costs.
Three car rims coated with SunMetallics pigments are also on display at the booth. SunMetallics is a line of non-leafing aluminum flake pigments for use in solventborne industrial and OEM coating applications. The product portfolio includes cornflake and silver dollar pigments over a broad particle size range to allow for formulation of coatings with excellent hiding power to brilliant metallic effects and excellent color travel.
Sun Chemical is also providing demonstrations in the booth of Surpass Elite W, a stir-in dispersant targeted for use in high performance waterborne coatings such as automotive and exterior industrial coatings. Surpass Elite W is dispersed by a simple stir-in process. There is no need for bead milling, eliminating spoilage and rework problems, and reducing processing time and effort needed for quality control. In addition to simplifying the paint making process, the Surpass Elite W pigment line also provides improved color capability.
