Evonik on Tuesday announced the construction of a new copolyester production plant at the company’s Witten site in Germany.
Commercial operation is slated for the first quarter of 2018, according to Communications Manager Friederike Roth.
Evonik is investing a “mid-double-digit million euro”sum in the plant – which will have the annual production capacity of several thousand metric tons – Roth said.
Roth said the project is “on track” to reach mechanical completion by the end of Nov. 2017.
“Polyester based coatings are perceived as a good alternative to substitute the standard epoxy based coating systems to ensure a bisphenol a free food packaging,” added Roth.
