In several easy steps, commercial businesses are transforming ugly, dirty, stained tile and grout into beautiful, low-maintenance floors protected by AmCoat’s Floor Shield.
Many aging facilities have ceramic tile and grout installed and have had to endure the high cost of removal — tearing out the tile and grout, and painstakingly removing the thin set — just to install new flooring.
Mike Moore, AmCoat’s director of products and applications, said more and more commercial operations are opting to go right over existing ceramic tile.
“It’s a very simple process of cement-leveling the tile, diamond grinding, and then installing Floor Shield’s 3-part polyaspartic system,” said Moore. “This is a huge time and labor saver and thus a money saver — you go right over the tile with a beautiful finish.”
Floor Shield’s 100% polyaspartic coating system features superior adhesion and a quick drying time. In fact, typical applications can be done with less than one day return to service.
“When going over ceramic tile, it’s normally a two-day install with return to service on the third day,” said Moore. “We’re completing these all over the country through our network of dealers. Demand has been high because of Floor Shield’s versatility and installs have had high customer satisfaction.”
The Floor Shield floor coating system is more durable and requires much less maintenance than typical epoxy. The finish is seamless and won’t trap contaminants like tile and grout.
“This is ideal for commercial kitchens with older, high-maintenance ceramic tile floors,” said Moore. “We recently did a Floor Shield install over tile in the employee breakroom for the Nassau County Bus Terminal in Long Island, New York. They had aging, stained grout that trapped grease and food. Now they have a seamless floor coating that’s attractive, easy to clean, and will last generations.”
The Floor Shield polyaspartic floor system is durable, more scratch resistant and is more UV stable than epoxy. In addition, its unique formula contains zero VOCs.
Another big plus is safety — Floor Shield’s coating system contains a silica blend for slip resistance that meets ANSI Compliance for slip resistance (wet and dry coefficient of friction).
