Position Description:
The Coated Abrasives Division is seeking a Research Engineer for product development projects at the Northboro Research & Development Center. The selected candidate will have experience in product development and knowledge of formulations, composites, polymers, web processing and coatings. The candidate will lead product development efforts in a team approach working closely with marketing and operations. Interactions across a broad range of levels, expertise, and geographic regions are required.
Profile Description:
The skilled candidate will be proficient and proactive in the following:
• A product development background with a BS Degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience, or an MS Degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience, or an entry level PhD, in Material Science, Chemistry, Chemical engineering or a related field coupled with industrial experience in coatings, formulations, design of experiments, process scale-up and application knowledge.
• Assist in the transition of these new product concepts into product development and the associated processes through prototype design, and qualification of new products for commercialization.
• Working in a matrix organization, the candidate will be able to communicate and interact effectively with a range of people including business, manufacturing, and research managers, process engineers, R&D engineers, technicians, and operators.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to work well on a large Research and Development Team.
• Demonstrated ability to design and direct technician run experiments to develop and support pilot scale processes and ensure correlation of pilot processes into manufacturing processes.
• Analysis and characterization of structure/property relationships in finished products.
• Document accomplishments in clear and coherent technical reports and presentations.
• A creative problem-solving with a hands-on approach to product development.
• Industrial experience and training with the proper and safe handling of chemicals and operation of the aforementioned equipment.
• Must be highly motivated and able to work under very limited guidance with the utmost precision and care.
