Saudi Butanol Co. (Sabuco) has awarded Daelim, of South Korea, a $293 million contract for construction of the world’s largest butanol plant in Jubail Industrial City, Saudi Arabia.
Sabuco, a joint venture of Saudi Basic Industries Corp. affiliate Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Co.; Saudi Acrylic Acid Co. and the Sadara Chemical venture of Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical, is building a project to produce 330,000 t/y of n-butanol and 11,000 t/y of iso-butanol.
Construction on the $517-million facility is scheduled to begin in January 2014, with completion anticipated in May 2015.
