Byk-Chemie GmbH was granted a patent for storage-stable urea urethane solutions useful as a thixotrope with good compatibility, especially for waterborne and high solids coating compositions. It is obtained by reacting at least two different monohydroxy compounds with excess of TDI for formation of monoisocyanate abducts, with the removal of unreacted TDI and then reacting monoisocyanate abducts with diamines in aprotic solvent in the presence of lithium salt to yield urea urethane.
