l International Coatings Ltd. and the Marine Contracting Association, Ltd. (Marcas) have signed a contract for the exclusive supply of drydock coatings for more than 60 vessels. The contract represents more than one million square meters on vessels including VLCCs, bulk carriers, container vessels, oil tankers and product carriers. Marcas, based in Bermuda, negotiates contracts on behalf of its member companies.
Through the accord, member companies (Teekay Shipping Corp., Vancouver, Canada; World Wide Shipping Managers Pte Ltd., Singapore; and Marenostrum Ltda., Lisbon, Spain) have allocated all of their 2003 drydockings to International Coatings Ltd. In addition, V-Ships Group also placed a significant proportion of their 2003 drydockings business with International.
“This deal is a landmark,” said Simon Parker, International’s UK marine manager. “For the first time, global ship owners, operators and managers have contracted together for their drydockings.”
Marcas subjected TBT-free antifouling products to a third party technical audit, including in-service performance testing, before awarding the contract to International Coatings.
